A Family Tradition

Archer’s Antiques is a family business and was started in Port Bolster, Ontario, in 1959. Between Steve and his Grandfather, the Archer family has been buying, selling and restoring early North American furniture and artifacts for over 60 years. Steve’s restoration skills were developed in his youth by working with his grandfather. Steve’s grandfather was renowned for his skills, and his reputation drew customers to his Port Bolster shop from miles away- many from as far as Toronto. This popularity and quality reputation continues with his grandson, with customers from near and far seeking the specialized collection curated by Steve. In the 1980s Steve moved west, settling in Southern Alberta, and taking the business with him. Between the 1980s and early 2000s, Steve carried on the tradition and travelled across North America looking for treasures to add to the ever-growing collection for the store.

After years of treasure hunting, restoration and refinishing….

After years of treasure hunting, restoration and refinishing, Steve finally decided to retire from custom restorations of antiques for clients. But he continues to practice his craft, and now only works on the antiques he has acquired from years of collecting for the store. Whether it’s rebuilding furniture, restoring finishes or rewiring lamps. Also, he no longer needs to hunt for treasures quite as much. These days the antiques come to him, through reputation and from downsizing collectors, past customers, and recommendations. Having said that, rarely does he take a vacation without coming home with an incredible find that he came across on his trip!

Today, you can discover the most recent finds in Bragg Creek, AB. From the shores of Lake Simcoe in Northern Ontario to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and everywhere in between. Archer’s Antiques is located a half hour west of Calgary, in the basement of a fully restored 1912 Arts and Crafts home.

If you’re in the area, visiting Banff, or the mountains, drop by Archer’s Antiques and look around. Or check out the rest of the website www.archersantiques.ca to see our collection.
