Marksman Six-20 Camera, made in Canada. A simple, functional camera made by Bernard Marks & Co. Ltd.
Marksman Six-20 Camera, made in Canada. A simple, functional camera made by Bernard Marks & Co. Ltd. This camera was a basic model that hit the market in the mid to late 1940s. The Marksman Six-20 has two viewfinders and a simple shutter button with a film winding knob.
While other companies manufactured cameras in Canada, Bernard Marks & Co. is considered to be the only true, Canadian-made camera. However rumours about the actual location of the manufacturing plagued the company and put the “made in Canada” label into question. Some models were labeled ‘Made in Canada BY Bernard Marks & Co” while other models say “Made in Canada FOR Bernard Marks & Co”. Rumours were that some models were actually assembled in Canada by parts that were manufactured in Chicago. This particular camera was made in Canada BY Bernard Marks & Co. Ltd, and was considered to be of higher quality than the second model. You can learn more about the history of the Marksman Six-20 here
