Elegant Mahogany Victorian-era tea caddy. The two inner compartments and inside of the lid are lined with silver paint, and the inside compartments have their own wooden lids. This caddy dates back to a time when tea was considered so valuable it was locked up, just like the fine silverware and china. Black market tea was rampant and of poor quality, and was sometimes even reused tea leaves that had been dried and smuggled out of wealthy British homes by maids and servants. High quality tea leaves were treated like valuable belonging. This box does not come with the key.
