A unique and rare find, this Gas-Lit Bicycle Lamp, 1890 ca is in excellent condition. The lamp would have been filled with kerosene and lit via a cotton wick.  Two convex, diamond cut, red lenses – one on the rear and one on the side, to help focus the light, while the wide front lens provided ample light ahead of the rider.  The lamp housing is black with nickel-plated top and kerosene pan, and nickel plating around the front lens. Stamp on the top reads “Hawthorne MFG. CO INC, Bridgeport, Conn.” and “OLD SOL”.
