Large 1950s era Canada Cement Company Thermometer. This thermometer is made of tin with a glass tube in the middle, with holes are in the top and the bottom so it can be fixed to an exterior wall. It also measures in Fahrenheit but has the number ’48’ printed under ‘130’, presumably to indicate the top measurable temperature in celsius.   Measures approx 35″ x 8″.

 

Description

Large 1950s era Canada Cement Company Thermometer.  This company was founded by Lord Beaverbrook in the early 1900s and quickly expanded to be the largest cement company in Canada until the 1930s.  The company expanded again in the 1940s, including the famous cement plant visible from the Trans Canada in Exshaw, Alberta. Eventually it become Canada Cement Lafarge, still in operation today.  This thermometer is made of tin with a glass tube in the middle, with holes are in the top and the bottom so it can be fixed to an exterior wall. It also measures in Fahrenheit but has the number ’48’ printed under ‘130’, presumably to indicate the top measurable temperature in celsius.   Measures approx 35″ x 8″.
